Sunny: Design Inspiration
My newest quilt pattern and video course for my Sunny Quilt is available now and today I'm sharing some design inspiration to get you excited about this versatile quilt pattern.
You can do so much with this quilt just depending on how you orient the blocks and how you group the colors.
If you know me at all, you know I like to make slightly chaotic quilts. Sometimes my color placements may seem random, but I am very intentional with color placement in an effort to create either discord or harmony (often areas of both in the same quilt).
Ways you can create discord in your Sunny Quilt is by reducing uniformity. Try changing the colors of your arc wedges (or sun rays as I like to call them) or background fabric from block to block. Try clumping together multiple blocks with the same arc color or background color to create more unique shapes and negative space.
If you aren't like me and you want your quilts to reflect a more unified or calm feeling you, you can do this by using a single background fabric or (in some of the circular layouts) using a single color in the arcs to create more consistency.
As you progress through the design ideas below, you'll see how the layouts can go from very simple to more complex, all with the single Sunny block depending on how you arrange them.
All of these quilts were designed using the exact same color palette, but the variations in how the quilts read color-wise, all comes from color placement and the amounts of color usage.
Have fun experimenting with both your block layout and color palette! I can't wait to see how you play with this quilt pattern!
